Mabel, Reana, and Hearst Castle

The photo above is from my latest trip to Hearst Castle, however, in this post I am not focusing on the Castle, I'm focusing on the fact that I went there with REANA LOUISE! I have been following Reana's blog for a few years now and have always loved her makes, fun sense of humor and personality, as well as her food posts. Last December she was in San Francisco and we didn't have the chance to meet up since I was coming back from London. When she e-mailed and told me that she was going to be in my area in August I practically begged her to come stay with me.

I know that some of you have met Reana before and can completely agree when I say that she is genuinely one of the nicest people ever with the biggest and kindest hearts. And she is sooooo fun to hang out with! Her boyfriend Kieran was here too and we walked on the beach, ate amazing Italian food, walked around San Luis Obispo, watched a funny stand up special from Jim Jeffries on Netflix, and talked sewing of course :) Oh, while they were here they had their first ice cream sandwich (from Batch in SLO), first cinnamon roll (from Old West in Pismo Beach), and first clams (from Giuseppe's in Pismo).

While we were at the Castle, Reana was kind enough to snap a couple of photos of me in my Mabel skirt. Yes, this is my fourth Mabel because I love that pattern so much and no, I don't have anything new to say about it. I just sewed the pattern exactly as the directions told me to for view 3 and didn't make any adjustments. The fabric is from Michael Levine and has held up well over the last few months of constant wear.

The kimono top was not made by me, it's RTW. My mom bought it for herself in Hawaii and gave it to me years and years ago. It was probably a mistake on her end because I think that the top is pretty awesome, but that's her bad :)

On the way down from the Castle we saw zebras and across the street at the beach there were a ton of whales jumping in the water and showing off! It wasn't a bad place to watch the sunset.

It was so much fun having Reana and Kieran stay with us for a few days. Ideally Reana would just move to California permanently so we could hang out more, but that's just me being selfish :)

If you aren't creeped out i willmdrive to you. Not because i am such a good person but because there must be new fabric stores in SLO. Karen from Visalia

  6. Hi Karen, I don't think SLO is the best place for a meet up, as there aren't really any fabric stores for garment sewing :( I put together a sewing blogger meet up in LA a few months back, so hopefully we will do another one soon! If we do, you should totally come!

  9. Oh you make my heart melt and my eyes tear! You also make me wonder how I can sneak back into California long term so I can hang out with you all the time. I'm sure Hearst Castle don't need ALL their rooms - right?!

  10. I really love the Mabel - I made my first one a few weeks ago and am just waiting for it to be warm enough here to wear it with bare legs.

I'm said I didn't got to Hearst Castle when we went to California a few years ago...

  11. Oh you HAVE to go to the Castle the next time you are in California! I don't know of anyone who doesn't love it! I would try and get a job as a docent just so I could spend more time there, but I have the worst fear of public speaking, so that wouldn't work out well haha
